Video: Huge Airs, Heavy Metal, & Denim with Billy Spurway in 'Now and Then'

Huge airs, heavy metal, and denim, what’s not to love?

Billy Spurway is part of a new crop of expressive riders channelling the MTB ways of old, with flashbacks to NWD and cranked DVDs. Riding bikes is an expression of their style. No timers, no race tape, just shovels, dirt, and sessions to get things feeling just right. Now and Then was shot throughout the 2023 UK summer around his hometown of Gloucestershire, England. Teaming up with his friend Callum Philpott (Chapter Studios) behind the lens to work on a project that showcases Billy’s take on riding bikes.

Grab the popcorn, crank the volume, and get amped.

bigquotesWith the build on the hip we’ve always ridden up on the slagheaps of years now and I’ve always had the idea to film a big 270 on it but never got round to stacking it up. When the opportunity to shoot with Callum for this years video came up we had to go get it done. It was really cool to shoot dirt farm as part of the video. I have spent too many weekends down there but never really had a proper filming session. So thanks to everyone who runs the operation down there it’s the best!

Also need to shout out Callum on this project he put in so much of his own time, helping with the dig and putting up with me on the edit, i recon we went through like 5 different tunes I could not make my mind up haha, thanks cal.

Funny how they only mention "Heavy Metal", when the majority of the video is hip hop.

I figured that this would be the first comment haha

I wonder how much it costs to use a big pun song in a commercial

@Snfoilhat: I doubt Chapter Studios knows.

@krka73: I often wonder how many creators go through proper channels to license work, and of those who don't what percentage do so after doing a cost benefit analysis based on the risk of litigation vs those who don't even give it a thought. I'm sure there is a view threshold under-which no artist would bother taking action against the content creator.

Sorry for being such a loser and taking your thought down the rabbit hole. Cool video though.

@jaytdubs: Both of the songs in here appear to be used through Youtube's music library.

Big pun and Windhand tracks in the same video? An edit after my heart.

Agreed, though one wonders if you made a Venn diagram of 90s hip hop, stoner/doom, and MTB, how many people would be in the intersection of all 3.

I'd like to see/hear more of this though... Mobb Deep and Electric Wizard? GZA and Sleep? Nas and Acid King?

@mhale2: Gangstarr and The Sword ? Das FX and American Sharks? Big L and Kyuss?

 Love this! Big Up Billy!
Personally was surprised to here Pun on it but hey, capital punishment was one of my fav albums as a teenager in 1997 and beware is a great track!
Riding is sick - love the jeans! love the style, love the tricks - this is what mtn biking is to me! like snowboarding, its art - expression and how we portray what we love to do! I wish there was more like this...
I am personally bored of the current trends (apart from the 50:1 boys - big up!)

Here is to hoping that Jack Moir's "Metal Monday" doesn't become this.

Super good riding, can't fault that. Bring metal back!!!

I love metal, it goes so well with hard riding, the switch to hip hop killed the pace. Still rad riding though.

@watchtower Matter of personal taste. I enjoyed the second half of the video more. But I also don't really care for Metal. So, there ya go.

Loved the vid, riding, build, music, editing. Personally loved the switch to hip hop but that’s my favourite genre. Well done guys!

Yeah, we're just going to leave out any mention of Big Pun...

So, my question is this... Did PB remove "hip-hop" from the video description for their post, or did Forbidded edit the description on Youtube and add hip-hop in after PB had already posted it here?

Music was on point .. good vid

Billy Spurway rips and if you turn the sound off the video is better. Heavy metal? Whomever click-baited that foolishness is obviously deaf. Would love to hear an Celtic Frost song from one of these albums; Morbid Tales, Emperors Return or To Mega Therion

No comments about how good the riding was? Good work Billy!

Tankard would be a much better metal band, hell the band Fear would smash faces

Wow. The amount of "Metal heads" on PB that hate on Hip Hop and/or Electronic music never ceases to amaze me. Personally, I'll take Hip Hop over Metal every day of the week. But hey, different strokes for different folks. I don't talk trash in the comments when a video has nothing but obnoxious Metal in it. I just mute the sound and keep my opinion to myself.

" I don't talk trash in the comments when a video has nothing but obnoxious Metal in it" good stuff, but you kind of just did.

Why did they change the music? It ruined the video for me after the intro was so good.
