Last Sunday, the most popular Downhill event of the year took place in Valparaiso, Chile. The Cerro Abajo is known as one of the most challenging urban DH races in the world. GHOST-RRP rider Johannes Fischbach was able to take 3rd place against the fastest Urban DH riders in the world. His teammate Tomas Slavik finished again on a great 2nd place! The Redbull Valparaiso Cerro Abajo is known as one of the most extreme City DH races and it really was!
Johannes participated in last year’s race and was able to finish in 6th place after crashing in the qualification run. This time, “Fischi” set out to avoid the same mistake, but realized after the track walk that the track was completely different but not less challenging.
“The obstacles were in part very difficult and dangerous to ride. The track was really tough!”, said Fischi after his first run. Each rider was only allowed 3-4 training runs to get a feel for the 3-minute-long race and to memorize the key sections. “Right from the beginning, I did everything I could to get up to race speed! In qualifying, I put down a safe run to the finish. But I did hold back in the pedaling sections in order to save energy for the final.” That plan worked and the German Downhill athlete was able to give it his all and his great run guaranteed him a third place finish. His GHOST teammate Tomas Slavik finished second, behind the winner Filip Polc who delivered his second win in the series.
“I am really happy about my third place finish, but I am also looking forward to riding in the woods again soon!”

Never mind, I was being an idiot (I thought Fischbach had the Red Bull helmet)
