Now THAT Was a Bike: Mountain Cycle San Andreas
I still have my 2000 frame and rear shock on the wall in my garage. It is in great shape and is now more art then bike, it I will always look at it and remember buying it new and how much fun it was to ride! The original build was: Z1 xfly MTCycle 6 inch coil shock Hope pro brakes Ritchey Wheels, bar, stem, and cranks SRAM grip shift 8 speed xrays (I think that was the model name)

Field Test: Giant Trance Advanced 29
Right, I had a original trance 29er. The year after I bought it they discontinued it and had a big campaign (see this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-IqnKvotUg) about 27.5 was the "end all to be all" and the same pro ridder who was singing the praise of my 29er was now towing the line on the smaller wheel (I don't blame him, the man has to eat). Now after years of other companies making some great 29ers along comes Giant again with a less travel (not saying it is not good just 20mm of less squish) and over twice the price of my trance 0. Interesting, I am going to think about this tomorrow when I take my Ripmo out for a spin.

Not surprised (bummed though) but no response to this either.

I got a chance to swing a leg over these and the Evolink 140 at sea otter. While I did not get a long ride, I was very impressed, especially in the Evolink 140. I was told by the reps there that I should contact them to set up a demo day with my riding group. When I emailed customer service with a question about demoing I recived a canned response that it may take a bit to get back to me. No biggie, small company. Three days later, nothing, I sent a reminder. One month later I sent another reminder, nothing. It is almost two months since I asked the question and not even a sorry no demos in the US. Not even a brush off email. I was really hoping to get some more seat time and possibly buy one this Year. Maybe in a couple of years they will have a bigger presence in the US and I can look at one on the next go around.

Whoops, sorry. I was not aware that this comparison was so invalid. Maybe I should have compared a direct to consumer bike and a 2018 CRF250 for $5k. @wibblywobbly:
