Review: Shimano XTR 9220 Brakes - Consistency is Key
@CobyCobie: no, the Saints doesn't have bigger pistons. Since at least 10 years (XT 8020) or earlier, Shimano uses 2x 17 mm and 2x 15 mm on all of their 4 piston calipers. Doesn't matter if cheap MT520, Deore, SLX, XT, XTR, ZEE oder Saint. All of them use the same diameter pistons.

How is it possible that XTR and Saint differ so much in performance? Both brakes have the same hydraulic and mechanical leverage ratio, which means the braking power should be identical.
I know that Pinkbike used the pads and rotors that belong to each system, but in my view that is not a conclusive test.
They should have made the additional effort to test all the brakes with the same reference setup (rotor and pads). Only that would make the brakes truly comparable.

Because of the orientation?

Spotted: Specialized's Updated Demo Prototype
The brake rotors seems to be mounted the wrong way.
On the one hand, I am sure that the mechanics know exactly what they are doing. On the other hand, all other rotors on the market are designed exactly the other way around. The forces on the ribs (?) are really unfavorable in this orientation.
