Last week, our riders Louis Lhomel & Stéphane Bélanger had the unique opportunity of riding a cyclo wall with
The Rise's Michel Plonka & photographer
Julien Grimard. Now you must be wondering what the heck is a cyclo wall? It's actually a backdrop which curves smoothly at the floor in order to eliminate the 'corner' where the wall meets the floor, thereby providing the illusion that the floor stretches on to infinity (see diagram below). In fact it creates a very steep vert wall.
This unique opportunity was made possible by one of Montreal's most promising collective of 'creatives involved in visual arts' a.k.a.
Made of Stills. Turns out they were moving into a bigger studio and not keeping the cyclo wall. Therefore Julien, who actually works there, seized the chance and demanded if he could have a last photoshoot with 2-3 buddies actually riding it with their bikes. Favor was granted and they got to ride it the following week.
Even with the excitement of test riding the wall, the crew managed to get a couple shots on the floor before getting some rubber action going on that perfectly clean white wall. Here's what came out of it.
Louis with a tobogan.
Michel with an opposite barspin.
Stéphane with a tabletop.
