Biking legend Brian Lopes swung by Mammoth Bike Park last week to take a few laps and have some fun. His arrival coincided perfectly with the recent opening of a few new trails, specifically Upper Twilight Zone and Recoil.

Upper TZ connects off of Velocity and consists of paver berms and jumps for the first third, dirt and wood berms and jumps for the middle third and sprinkler-fed dirt jumps and berms for the bottom third. Check out this video edit for a top-to-bottom ride of the trail: http://vimeo.com/28237635

Recoil is the newest trail in the bike park with the most recent section opening last Saturday (9/10/11). It's a fast, flowy trail full of paver berms and jumps. It's only about halfway done but it's already one of the most popular trails here. This video edit shows the first part of Recoil then leads into Techno Rock and Jill's Jumps. Recoil has about doubled in length since this video was made and it will eventually follow all the way down to Main Lodge (~2 miles total of jumps and berms!!!!). http://vimeo.com/28637242

Boosting on the wood ramp on Twilight Zone
Twilight Zone. This wooden ramp was added in August. It worked so good that the trail crew is currently working on a redesign of Pipeline so that it will be nothing but wooden ramps, berms and boardwalks. Gonna be sick!

It managed to rain here in Mammoth for a good part of the last two days before tapering off yesterday afternoon. The moisture has the trails riding the best that they have all season long. Mammoth Bike Park is going to remain open daily through September 18 and then run Fri-Sun on Sept 23-25 and Sept 30-Oct 2 so if you haven't been up here lately, now is the best time of the year to check it out. Especially considering that the completely redesigned Pipeline is expected to open up within the next week or so.
