Beating up guy who wouldn't defend himself even from little girl isn't good way to learn someone respect.
I am not defending younger guy, he needs to be punished too, but agression is just wrong option.
Even a hero can fall, after all everyone are just human beings.

thing is that the old man is racist who first started insulting younger guy, I bet that no one would clam him self being insulted as someone who can only clean boots, in this case old man wanted the younger man to clean his boots...

Actually it was British and Canadian troops, not only Canadians... well you can even just call them british, Canada started to be country in 1867.
