Fernie Alpine Resort: Bike Crew Update #3, 2014
Flexible fan rakes can come in handy for general maintenance on rooty, rocky, or sensitive alpine environments where we may not want to disrupt the soil too much. Typically we use them to remove blowdown debris and small loose rocks. McCloud's, Pulaskis, shovels, or bow rakes are obviously the tool of choice when we need to do any dirt work but we find they are not great for general light clean up on trails as they catch on large embedded rocks/roots and can make more of a problem than needed. What you cannot see in this photo is the massive pile of other tools we hauled down the 4.2km Rumplestumpskin to get it dug out, buffed up and ready to ride on opening weekend June 28th.
