Outride Pledges $1.4 Million to Youth Cycling Initiatives in 2020

Now more than ever, people are returning to bikes. COVID-19 has seen a resurgence of youth biking, and at Outride we are committed to giving kids the tools, knowledge, and resources necessary to get them cycling in a safe and healthy manner.

Outride wants to help you build the next generation of trails and riders. Do you have kids in your community who could benefit from riding or developing their riding skills? Would you like to see a community pump track, new trails, or a bike league in your town? We share your vision, and we have two grants to help you make this cycling future a reality.

Over the past 5 years, Outride has provided bikes, helmets, PE curriculum, and teacher training to over 140 middle schools in the US and Canada through our Riding for Focus grant program. In 2020, we expect to add 40 new schools! In 2019, we also launched the Outride Fund - our newest grant initiative. Through dollar for dollar matching grants, the Outride Fund seeks to make fundraising easier and works to accelerate the rate at which communities can launch youth cycling programs.

The Outride Fund has three areas of focus:
- Youth cycling education
- Youth rider development
- Trails and pump track projects

In the first 6 months, the Outride Fund has awarded $250,000 in matching grants to organizations in 22 states. Together, these Outride-funded initiatives will contribute more than $1.4 million towards improving access to youth cycling in 2020.

This past Fall (2019), The Outride Fund issued 19 grants to organizations in 13 states, committing $111,000 in matching funds if funding goals are met. This Spring (2020), an additional 24 matching grants were awarded, committing over $149,000 to community partners in 14 states.

To get involved, Outride encourages anyone to set up a local fundraising campaign using the Outride Fund fundraising platform. Within this platform, you are able to launch your campaign and safely and securely accept public donations towards your project.

Once a campaign is established, the organizer should apply for an Outride Fund matching grant. This is a dollar for dollar matching program that Outride awards to the most deserving campaigns. If awarded a grant, once fundraising goals are met, The Outride Fund will provide a matching grant in full to help fund the cycling project.
