With the support of 2.4 mio DKK from the Nordea-foundation a new 8 km mountainbike trail is being build by Hareskovens Mountainbike Sporgruppe (Hareskovens Mountainbike trail building group) on the most used path north of Copenhagen. The trail that will be build by volunteers is expected ready in 2019.

The old mountainbike trail in Hareskoven called the Red Trail is Denmarks most used trail for MTB and has seen an increase in users of 23 % in 2015 compared to the previous year.

81,754 used the trail in 2015.

The trail is originally a path originated from people biking in the forest, and with the increase in traffic it can no longer withstand the current use. This leads to bikers riding other places than the trail causing some conflicts with other users.

The trail group wants to create better conditions by building a new sustainable and strong MTB trail in the forest for all users to appreciate.

With this project the original 26 km long track will be split in 8 new trails connected with points. This will increase the overview of the trail for the users and help avoid people to get lost on the trail. The red marking poles found today will be equipped with distances and names for the connection points.

Furthermore a new trail grading can be found in order for beginners to select different challenges. This will increase accessibility for all and lower the bar for people to start biking and get even more people out to the forest for exercise.

The new trail will be build by volunteers over the next 3 years in coorporation with The Danish Nature Agency. The support of 2.4 mio DKK is the largest amount given to one particular mountainbike trail in Denmark.

"With the new trail in Hareskoven it will become easier and funnier for even more to jump on their bikes and get sweating in the pretty terrain in Hareskoven. We are happy to support the passionate volunteers in their ambitious work", Said Henrik Lehmann Andersen, Director in the Nordea-foundation, that supports the good life.

"In The Danish Nature Agency we are really happy about the cooperation with Hareskovens MTB-Trail group. The trail group in skilled in finding solutions that utilizes the terrain in the forest, the roots and other challenges that makes the trail more fun to ride. And that is important because when a MTB-trail is good, then that is when most riders wants to ride there - and we avoid people riding on hiking paths and equestrian trails where mountainbiking can give conflicts with other users of the forest".
