The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly - Pinkbike Editors' Favorite Night Riding Lights
The fog comment is no joke. Years ago we did a group night ride and the trail had a natural turn around point decision. The leader of the ride told us we were turning around. A few of us wanted to keep going. We quickly learned that the person in front could not see anything due to the fog. BUT if you were a rider behind you could see enough combined with seeing the general direction of the leader that it was fine. We turned around and followed the rest of the group back the safe way.
If you are starting out just get a helmet light, it is enough to learn if you like it or not. I have never graduated to a handlebar light but have ridden a few friends bikes with one. It is better, but it is not lifechanging.
