Waterford RS-22 steel Cross w/ Ultegra

$2000 CAD
This is a cross bike but you can call it a gravel bike if you like (but it is cross bike!). YEAR 1999/2000 Investment cast lugs and 853 tubing. This RS 22 frame and fork from Waterford, one of the top firms for steel bikes in the US, costs 4,000 dollars Canadian, before taxes and shipping. So, nearly 5K to your door if you bought a new one. Just for the frame and fork. This is a 54 x 54 frame, but there is a one-inch extension of the head tube above the top tube (“extended head tube”). It has a full Ultegra nine speed build with Ultegra wheels equipped with Mavic Open Pro rims. It currently is shod with 35 C tires. There is enough room for 38s. The brakes are XT cantilevers. Lovely condition, with a few small paint chips. At the moment there is a Look Ergo stem fitted (put it on after I had a back operation), but it will be replaced with the original Thompson or similar 10 cm stem. Headset is a Chris King unit. No seat. I’m keeping my Brooks…..Pedals are Shimano MTB. Nine-speed is very robust, Triple chain ring, so great range. 9 spd chains and cassettes last and they are relatively cheap. You can get good quality triple nine chainsets from SunRace, so there is no need to worry about having to upgrade everything to 11 or whatever when components wear out. Or you can still find Deore 9 spd triples from Shimano. Frame is fitted with double water bottle mounts, eyelets, rack mounts on rear stays and low rider braze-ons on the forks. Geo is a bit quicker than a typical gravel bike, but this is a cross bike, intended for racing but fitted out for light touring, and very capable on fire roads and gravel paths. More fun on the asphalt than a full-on gravel oriented rig
