Interesting stat I heard on the broadcast about Holl - she has competed at 10 World Champs and won 7 of them (2 junior I am guessing). Pretty incredible.

@chakaping: I kind of get it for something like TDF where you have a combination of helicopter shots and multiple motorbike cameras etc and moving to a new start/finish location every day, probably makes a lot of sense to do it from a studio ...
For DH and XC, first of all a track walk would be of huge benefit to the commentary team, to be around the pits and get a sense of the atmosphere, chatting with the riders, mechanics, coaches etc would give a much better feel of what's going on rather than staring at a wall of monitors and the flashing neon 'talk about Whoop now' sign.
