Opinion: Handlebar Width is the Most Overlooked Element of Mountain Bike Fit
I usually run 770mm but recently thinking of trimming that down to 768mm.

Shimano Launches Cable-Actuated XT Drivetrain
@Dario-DiGiulio: reading the springs are stiffer and Di2 already received a running change. “ When XT Di2 launched last year, the dual-spring system was claimed to offer 72% more chain tension than the old Shadow+ clutch. Despite this, some riders have reported excessive chain slap and noise with the new Di2 derailleurs. It would seem that Shimano has been listening, because it quietly made a running change through production a few months ago. Newer derailleurs are equipped with a stiffer spring, which includes this latest mechanical version. According to Shimano, the updated dual-spring chain stabiliser “increases spring performance by 70% for better chain retention and consistent performance over rough terrain”. That figure refers to Shimano’s previous mechanical clutch derailleur design, rather than the earlier XT Di2 derailleur. Either way, there’s more spring tension on offer here, though whether it silences chainslap and critics is yet to be seen.”

Shimano Launches Cable-Actuated XT Drivetrain
Spring life and consistency is highly dependent on the material and design. The issue is maintenance.

Spring tension is increased on mech and Di2. They made a running change a couple of months ago and supposedly will offer an upgrade kit.

Actually just read that spring tension is increased on the mech derailleurs and a running change was made on the new Di2 units.

Shimano Launches Cable-Actuated XT Drivetrain
Shimano has increased spring tension on these derailleurs over the Di2 version and will be offering heavier spring kits for existing Di2 derailleurs according to Flow Mountain Bike site.

I never noticed much noise from the new Di2 derailleur. Guessing some frame designs may exaggerate it, not sure. The mech derailleur also has a cable and housing creating some stability. Not even sure what the spring tension is on these yet. My guess is this setup will be more consistent over time than the old clutch which is rarely maintained properly.
