I don't really ride downhill anymore but I recall a specific instance where I'm almost certain my brace saved my neck. A local trail has a steep entrance into a fall line with a sharp left followed by a even sharper right through a pair of trees before it cuts across the hillside. As I cut the right corner my bar snagged the tree to my right sending me down the hill, with my helmet being the first thing to contact the ground. I remember the feeling of my head being pushed down and to the side before the brace came in contact with it, I remember feeling like I was pivoting around the top of my helmet before the rest of my body hit the ground. It one of the scariest feelings crashes I've ever been in, but I came to a stop some distance down the hill just bruised and a bit bloody. I'll never forget that feeling of impact to my head followed by the brace supporting me.
