This weekend's race in Les Gets has a little extra dash of importance - it's the racer's final chance to one-up their competition in the run-up to the coveted Olympic Games. There have been some clear and consistent contenders this season with Loana Lecomte and Pauline Ferrand Prevot doing battle in the women whilst Mathias Flueckiger and Ondrej Cink lock horns in the men's racing. Ferrand Prevot had a good day in the office taking the win after battling with Sina Frei and Jenny Rissveds, Lecomte could only manage 12th which meant Ferrand Prevot clawed back some useful overall points. It was a familiar story in the men - Flueckiger really is the man to beat, he's been at the front at every opportunity in 2021. The Swiss man managed to wriggle free from Jordan Sarrou and Ondrej Cink to take the top spot once again.

Great shots. My top-three highlights from the XCC, Sina Frei yawning on the start line, Jenny Rissveds post-race interview was outstanding (usually is) and Tom Pidcock getting his front wheel swept only to somehow come back for a 2nd row start.

And yeah, no mullets, but there are some pretty bad mustaches if you look around.

I think someone at Oakley's sponsoring program received an angry phone call from their manager 'cause no athlete would wear their atrocious new model when it was released and now 1 month later everybody's having them !

Are you talking about the "Sutro"? If so you're right. They make 1980's Factory Pilots look elegant.

 No Mullets?

Perhaps reverse mullets in the future?

It’s not allowed to race with different wheel size front and back.

@magnusc: Like I said, just maybe in the future?

Nice kickoff to a great weekend of cycling action. 4 XC races, 2 DH Races and Le Tour. It doesn't get much better. Sina yawning on the start line is something I've done myself when I get amped up waiting to start a race.

Great short track course! Close fights and still spread out. Hoping for a lot more technical sections and more close fights and action on Sunday also.

Andrew....what makes you think I am a lemming and allowed t to be injected? Do not confuse hypothesis with facts (science, you know). You had it? Great, me, no reason at all, never was. I cannot wait for the many lawsuits from the results still unknown.

And yes, dozens and dozens sprayed in sinks...pesky HIPAA, eh?

Is Nino playing mind games to fool everyone for tokyo's race? or is he just out of pace?
  • 1 0
Nino is super strong, and super technically skilled but never had the explosive speed that is neceary to win some races today.
Bad luck that the course in Tokio is almost flat and better suited for roadies and sprinters. If Nino dos not surprises the other riders with a very clever strategy his chances to win are very seldom.
I hope Nino and Matthias work togheter at least during the Olympics (should be great teammates too @scottmtbracing)

@entrecerros: I thought the Tokyo course is technical?

It is a pump track with mild rock gardens. I bet the races will be pure speculation until final sprint.
