May 5, 2022Specialized Shiv Comp Rival w/ Zipp 404
$1500 CAD2013 Specialized Shiv Comp Rival, size large
I bought this bike early in 2020 planning on taking on the Tri season at the bottom of the 50-54 age group but the pandemic had other ideas. I enjoyed riding it on solo rides when groups broke up and to keep up with training: lucky enough to get to do the Vancouver Tri last year. Unfortunately too many issues have sidelined my running so need to move the bike along.
The bike is almost almost 10 years old but looks like new: in condition and styling. The bike is SO smooth and easy to ride fast all day long.

Bike is stock except for the chain, cassette, and wheels:
www.specialized.com/us/en/shiv-comp-rival-mid-compact/p/38075?color=84404-38075&searchText=9921-4104
Zipp 404 wheels are circa 2011, light, aero, true, spin smooth and lots of life left on the brake surface. Non-drive decals removed.
Specialized Turbo Pro 24mm tires
Fuel Cell storage, Fuelselage bladder, extra stem spacers, saddle bottle mount, and NEW Dura Ace shifters included
Aero bar recall upgrade has been done
Low mileage, chain shows no stretch on chain checker, cassette and chainrings show no wear.

$2000 CADRoad, Gravel, CX, Trail, this bike can do it all! Geometry puts it right in between Endurance/Gravel and 'Cross. Reynolds 853 Steel frame and Whiskey Carbon yields a smooth ride. I have used the bike for my rain bike, commuting, CX racing, gravel and even SFU trails. The only reason I am selling it is that I have a more modern bike and need to make some room in the stable. It is in excellent mechanical condition but cosmetically it is showing its age with the usual scratches and rub marks. No dents or rust!

I believe the price is right for the mechanical condition it is in, all the extras and updgrades I am including, and that the frame will last!
Recent replacements & Upgrades:.
Bar Tape- Arundel Gecko Grip
Headset- bearings recently replace and I have a spare I will include
Chainring- Absolute Black Oval 40T, stock Rival spider included
Bottom Bracket- SRAM GXP may need service/replacement soon but is tight and spins freely.
Cassette- Shimano 105, 11-32t
Chain- Shimano Ultegra HG701
Wheels- Alexrims Boondocks 3, 15mm F, 9mm QR R, x2 sets and all adapters, Original hubs included
https://alexrims.com/products/boondocks-3/
Rotors- Sram Paceline and Centerline on the spare wheels
Tires- Continental Grand Prix GT 28mm black + Bontrager CX3 Team Issue 32mm
Bottle Cages- 2x Elite Custom Race
Rear Mudguard- SKS full coverage
Other stuff:
There is a lot of debate over the benefits of oval rings; I picked them because they look good, were light, available, and easy to pedal smoothly at high load/low cadence (less slippage on loose terrain). I have found Shimano drivetrains to be the best performing, reliable, and value for the $, chainring, chain and cassette have lots of life left and wax based lube used on the chain so it is clean and quiet. Original rims didn't stand up too well so replaced with the Alex wheels. Replacement freehub was hard to come by so I bought a 2nd wheelset to have as a spare. I am including both as I have no need for the 2nd set. Mount up some gravel tires and a 42T cassette on the spare and you are good to go for any kind of ride. As I use the bike mostly for commuting/road now, it is set up with road tires, throwing in my cross tires in case you want to get dirty. The fender mount hardpoint on the fork is stripped and the mount bolt will no come out. Cosmetic scrape on the rear derailer from a trip to the tarmac on an icy corner.
I will not ship and I am in no hurry to sell this bike so lowball offers will be ignored.

$2250 CADI bought this bike used as an impulse thinking I would race more CX and use it as a gravel bike but have now bought a dedicated gravel bike. Previous owner used it as a touring bike so there are a few rub marks from the bags but it is all cosmetic. This bike handles equally well on the road as on the CX course and gravel paths.

Recent replacements/upgrades:
Stem- FSA OS150 100mm, original Bontrager 110mm stem & Blendr single mount included
Bars- Zipp Service Course 70 XPLR, Original bar included
Chainring- Absolute Black Oval 36T
Chain- Shimano Dura Ace
Cassette- Sram PG1130 11-36
Brakes- *NEW* organic pads just intalled on the rear and extra set included
Tires- *NEW* Panaracer Gravelking SS TLC black 32mm mounted with tubes, original CX3 Team Issue tires included
Bottle cages- *NEW* 2x Bontrager Pro Silver
Less than 4000Km on the drivetrain (cleaned and waxed regularly, no wear according to chain checker), the oval ring and 1:1 low gear gives you sufficient climbing ratio and great climbing traction but spin out at around 45Km/h.

$2000 CADRoad, Gravel, CX, Trail, this bike can do it all! Geometry puts it right in between CX and Gravel. Reynolds 853 Steel frame is smooth, stiff, and compliant but a bit hefty.
