@birdsandtrees: Yeah, I use the battery block when transporting longer distances. Battery stays in for storage and shorter trips.

@wolftwenty1: I've had three rides ruined by my GX T-Type. The first one was on me... people were talking about not needing to charge often, and I ran it dead thinking it would last longer. The second time, it was after a looong drive with the bike on a rack, which apparently doesn't allow the derailleur to sleep - and it ran down enough to run out during the first ride out my destination... lesson learned - take the battery out. The third time is now a warranty issue, where the contact pins are no longer making contact with the battery. I'm just glad that happened within the two year warranty period (still waiting on the warranty to be resolved). All that said, yeah I would consider doing a mechanical "downgrade" at this point.

Photo Story: Exploring the Heart of Afganistan by Bike
I've been reading "The Places In Between" by Rory Stewart, who walked through Afghanistan shortly after the fall of The Taliban in 2002. It's a fascinating read. This story and accompanying photos make a great companion. The pictures of people and places bring greater context to what Rory may have experienced in his journey. Thanks for this.

@Simzesun: I have tried helmet mount only. I prefer the way the terrain is lit with two lights. And, the only way you're going to get enough light and run time with helmet mount, without it being too heavy on your head, is running a cable to a battery in a pack. I really like the convenience of self contained units.

Oh, and the comment "no need for two lights anymore" is crazy to me. You need the bar mount to cast shadows so you can read terrain, and head mount for seeing through corners. Having both is necessary for trail riding.

What? For around the same price, you can get both a helmet *and* bar mount light—and no cables to futz with, from Outbound. This may have more lumens, but I've never found myself wanting for light with the Outbound combo.
