@pmhobson: "i'm surrounded by smooth trails" is way different than an apparent prejudice against new advancements in smoothing out the ride. you and i are not so different, i am almost always underbiked, i guess you could say, purposefully. i will ride a fully rigid single speed 29er on "black diamond" trails where most dudes probably have 4-5" of squish. i do enjoy the challenge, but i also have a dropper so i don't die on some of the rock face descents. i do think it's dumb when i meet a couple of enduro-bros on the front range trails in colorado complaining how there's nowhere to go fast on their 6-7" dual squish bikes with a 64 degree head angle. colorado front range trails are packed with humans' - there's nowhere you're opening up those motorcycles unless you don't give a shit about human life and scaring the shit out of all hikers, which is lame because mtn bikers would be the first group to be removed from trails if there are enough complaints. anyway, i wish you many challenging rides, and this has inspired me to get back out there - i have been dealing with health issues and mostly bmxing, but goddamn i miss the trails so much; mtb is thee best mental health

I think the problem here is you made a stupid and incorrect point about the reason for technological advancements in mtb. i hope you have the oldest piece of shit bike with no suspension and no dropper and 24" wheels to unsmooth your ride on the roughest trails possible because that's your point of view on tech is there's no point because you could just "ride smoother trails." i hope you have no suspension fork and your dentures fall out of your dumb head
