I've ridden in a lot of foot-shaped shoes in the search for this myself, but I've yet to find anything that actually perfoms and protects like a proper mtb shoe... lets start a company eh?

Drift Shoes Launches with the ARC Sneaker
Been wishing for years that I had an extra couple million lying around so I could start a proper foot-shaped cycling shoe company. I have tried Lems--they generally aren't wide enough for my feet, which don't even measure as "wide" on a Brannock device, my toes just don't bend inward anymore since I rehabbed them--but perhaps more importantly the quality is pretty garbage mid in my experience. Even their boots don't hold up to just normal wear, much less the abuses of cycling. Guess we need to just band together and start a company eh?

Review: Every Pair of MTB Shoes I've Worn This Year
It’s so so wild to me how much effort, time, and money goes into making fantastically technical shoes - which these all are - and yet here we are in 2025 with designers still making shoes that are not shaped like the human foot: the big toe goes straight out from the metatarsal fam, please stop making shoes that curve inward and squeeze the big toe pleeeeeease
That aside, excellent job Dario writing short and extremely informative reviews here.
