After a few weeks break, the Sea to Sky Enduro Series is back in action June 28 in Whistler for round 4. We’re naming this one after the elusive Cheakapotamus, a mythical creature once thought to be extinct, until one was recently spotted in the Cheakamus area of Whistler. It is believed that they are descended from the African hippopotamus, and likely swam across the Atlantic many millenia ago, and then walked up from there. They were once infamous in Mexico for their penchant for tequila and fast lady Cheakpotami.

Sea to Sky Enduro Series Round 1 - Squamish The Gryphon - Taking the win on Stages 1 and 5 as well as the overall win

Will Jesse retain his lead in the series?

This course is a bit of a departure from the EWS style format - smooth trails, relatively low technicality, a fair bit of pedaling, but blazing fast with a lot of cornering. We're hoping to see a bunch of juniors, ladies, and intermediate riders unsure about this whole “enduro” thing come out and give it a shot. Accomplished racers will want to bring their cornering A-game, some fast rubber, and an efficient pedaling rig. Course details will be released this weekend for juniors, and Thursday June 26 for everyone else.

We’ll start and finish at “house rock”, a parking area near the bottom of the Westside road in Cheakamus Crossing. Nesters Grocery and Russell Brewing are supplying food and beverages, along with prizing from our series sponsors (SRAM, Chromag, North Shore Billet, SuspensionWerx, Marx Conditioning, 100%, One-Up).

Jamie Hill all business and absolutely flying

Among Pro Men, Jesse has a commanding lead in the overall series after winning each of the first 3 events. Pro Women are tightly packed among the top 5, though none of them have done all of the events. Katrina has the lead currently, but its still anyone’s game at this point. In Open Men David Friesen has a slight edge over Pat Foster, perhaps because Pat missed Pemberton. Simmone Lyons is dominating Open Women after having won the first 2 events, and placing 2nd at the third. Masters Men is still tightly contended with Brad Martyn out in front for now. Tina Plumb is well out front among Masters Women, but it ain’t over yet!

Round 6 is our grande finale, and will see us wrap things up in and around the Whistler Mountain Bike Park on July 26. Preliminary plans include 2 stages in the bike park (1 upper, 1 lower mountain), and then a final third stage on Blackcomb. Everyone will ride up the gondola to the roundhouse in the morning, and that will be it for lift-assisted riding. There will still be a fair bit of steep climbing throughout the day, and the level of technicality will be among the highest in the entire series. Stay tuned for details...
