Wanted to say thanks to MindPatterns for pursuing this topic. I was reading through your excellent posts in the 'Kona Operator' thread back in 2012. Unfortunately most of the other replies in the thread didn't seem to grasp what you were explaining. But I appreciated your thorough description and explanation. I'm still dealing with this issue with my own 2016 Boxxer team forks all these years later lol and found your info helpful in my research. (part of me wonders if it was a misprint that originally meant to read "no more than 156mm..." but I guess we'll never know for sure.) For my boxxers, I've just been making use of the "+/- 2mm" margin and running mine at 154mm from the top of the lower crown to the top of the stanchion tube, however, I still get worried I'm going to bottom out one of these days and hit my wiper seals as the available travel space always seems just a couple militmeters shy of 200mm. I also shared your concern about inducing too much leverage upon the headtube by using something closer to "Setting 1" from your diagram.
