@skimtb1: Haha good on ya! That's a better outcome to fund the new frame, I'm hoping they'll come to their senses without having to mass post about my experience.

@suspended-flesh: Have some friends who crash-replaced Supreme V4's to V5's and were told that there's been no warranty issues with the new ones. But also heard of someone snapping chainstays on the V5 this year not in a crash...

@skimtb1: Yo I creeped your profile and know you, we're dh bros!! Found your posts when I was having my issues on the web and was thinking of doing something similar to inform people about my situation too. Your experience with Commencal sounds like dealing with a sketchy used-car dealership, not a mountain bike company.

@BiNARYBiKE: Yes. It was the very small step up on A-Line before the jump under the bridge. Had a train of guys behind me that all heard the huge cracking sound when it happened and we all stopped. They did get imaginative with what they think happened, so props to Commencal for having a creative writer in the warranty department: ------------------------------- In this case we can only hypothesize about the exact scenario that occurred to cause your headset to deform but we know that this failure does not occur from a natural failure while anding a jump regularly. The Supreme V5 has been very well tested and ridden now and this would be the first occurrence of an ovalized head tube in Canada. We had to consider the possibility that there is a first time for everything so have taken the time to ensure that the frame was manufactured to required thickness incase this was a failure of the material as a one-off manufacturing error but all tests came back with correct thickness. Providing you have landed the jump with no abnormality then below is the other scenario that would cause a failure such as this: - The lower headset cup had failed prior to this accident. The lip on the front of the cup has split allowing the cup to move further into the head tube. This caused the headset to become loose, so when landing the jump the cup pressed forward and ultimately allowed the head tube to bend. - This one is very much an unkown possibility to us and only you will know what happened but it is another possibility for you to consider. You have a very new front wheel on your bike. Possibly at the time the old front wheel was damaged the headset also sustained damage that over time ripped itself apart internally and created looseness to allow failure during landing. The conclusion to this case is that it cannot be covered as a material or manufacturing defect under warranty and the offer of a discounted replacement frame is what we are able to offer at this time to get you back riding again.

Recently landed a jump on a Supreme V5... The headset popped out of the headtube and now it's ovalized. First owner, experienced rider, 160lbs, all bolts tight. Their warranty response: We have had our mechanic do a review of the situation and take some measurements and the frame indeed has sustained damage that has pulled the lower shell of your headset housing forwards. With regards to your fork steerer this visually looks okay. It seems that your lower headset cup and frame took the brunt of the damage. I imagine this must have happened when you 50/50’s the landing of a jump by accident when coming up short. We would not be able to cover this under warranty as this damage looks to be an unfortunate accident but we can offer ‘crash replacement’ pricing on a new frame. The cost for a new frame would be $2,940.00 and you can do the same chalk colour way or pick another available colour way from the frames section on our website.
