OneUp Announces Carbon Bars, EDC Ready Stem & Lock-On Grips
@kram: without the bottom plug holding the tool snug in the steerer doesn't it rattle around in there? And does the tool get covered in water/dirt/mud with the bottom completely open like that? If not then I'm going to try this!

@mulv1976: Fair enough. I've just never seen this as an issue on any of the bikes I've used the EDC system on, but I see your point. As I said if you just keep your hand directly on top of it and push down on the tool when you're tightening then there is little chance of it slipping and damaging the grooves. If your headset requires excessive torque to stay tight then maybe there's an issue with your headset?

@mulv1976: You're just preloading the headset bearings, doesn't require much torque at all so you shouldn't be chewing up the grooves. Just keep your hand directly on top of the tool/wrench, pressing down as you snug it up. I'm possible for the tool to slip out that way.

@kram: Doesn't the EDC tool only fit in tapered steerers though? DH forks have a straight steerer. Would love the carry my EDC on the DH bike but thought it wasn't possible. Do you just not use the bottom plug? I assumed that wouldn't fit in the straight steerer of my Fox 40.
