It poured rain for the last 2 weeks yet I am happy as a pig in sh*t. wanna know why? read on...Boy, I am going to sleep good tonight. Big build last night with Dan where we moved a jump about 2 or 3 feet further down the trail and built the landing a bit more and cleaned up the next corner. It took us 4 hours from about 7h30pm to 11h30pm (yes in the dark!). Both Dan and I were giddy at seeing the jump take shape. Rarely will I get someone as excited as me and willing to work really hard until 11h30 at night. After trailbuilding for 11 years, more and more people want to come and build with or build on my trail. After so many years busting my ass with people passing by and most of them not even saying thank you or good job, it's great to see people wanting to help, people wanting to donate wood, nails etc...
Please don't get me wrong, most people are content to ride their bike for a thrill, everyone has their preference as to what they want to do as their passion so if you prefer, to golf, hockey, clubbing or even to just suck back beers and get fat on the couch, have at it bud, I'll be outside breathing fresh air. But don't whine bitch and complain that the trail is beaten down when you and your fat behind have done nothing but shred down and can't be bothered to help or say thank you...so as we say in Quebec when we are toasting" a tout ceux qui nous aiment, pis aux autres qui mange de la marde"
ok, now that we got this tangent out of the way, I can finally get to it...
It's great to be alive and riding even when the conditions are crap, we are outside, people unite under one common goal. To shred today as we don't know how much longer we can cause winter is coming(as evidenced by the 4 inches of snow at the top of trail). Or we are just new to the sport like Reid's dad and his comments after riding wet slippery Moose Mountain was wow! my hands are shaking. Ok, did you soil yourself or did you smack your hand, no,no,no... his hands were shaking he was so pumped on adrenaline and rode down with no crashes!!!and said to me I get the same hand shaking as I do after a good day at the track ( he races a stripped 1985 Corvette for fun!!)
so if I can share this experience with someone who is new at the sport, I feel awesome, on top of not crashing.... well I had a couple of interesting pinbaling moments but stayed on(thank god for good equipment). Plain and simple, it's a good day to be a mountain biker when there was only about 10 other riders all day, we slayed the mountain. I feel awesome, and everyone that rode with me today also seemed to be on the same buzz as I was... total bliss
