@kyleluvsdh: the new top section is much slower speed, technical, and gnarly. The media release doesn’t really convey this properly. The 80km/hr references the lower part of the existing course where riders hit these speeds into the creek gap. The new top section is actually pretty slow. Obviously people can form their own opinion on what Hardline is/should be, but in our view there is a lot of value in developing courses that work with their local site, terrain, slope, etc. Working in this way also ensures there is variability, keeping riders on their toes and ensuring a diverse skill set is required to win. At the end of the day we have had basically unanimous positive feedback on the course from the riders themselves, which is the most important factor for our course team. No matter what your view, the one thing we can promise is that this will be another epic race. Cheers, Simon @ MBP

@catweasel: not exactly accurate re taping. I personally manage the course and race at Hardline Tasmania, including the course marking. All the marker posts are in pairs- riders are briefed that anything within the posts is fair game. I don’t involve anyone else in the marking, so no riders are advantaged. The lack of tape is completely irrelevant. The athletes all have the chance to ask questions and/or raise issues with me during and after the official course walk- nothing was raised. The line was deliberately left open and was only spotted by a couple of athletes on race day as. It certainly wasn’t the major conspiracy it’s been painted as by some. Simon @ MBP

A couple of quick points for those playing along at home- 1- this video only shows sections (not all) of the lower half of the course, and doesn’t show the tech in this section 2- testing was completed by Hardline athletes- riders like Dan Booker (one of the worlds best bike handlers), Darcy Coutts (qualified 5th at last years event), and George Brannigan (podium last year) are going to make it look easy. 3- there is plenty of tech in the upper half of the course. 4- it really shouldn’t need saying, but this ain’t a flow trail

Thanks for the kind words. We’ve got a fair bit done in the first 5 years, but there is lots more new trails in the pipeline, along with some major new developments at our base facility, and in the broader township.

WBD are very aware that Maydena is keen to host future World Cup events (and can secure the required government support do so). As the operators of Mystic (Bright) we have also flagged that venue as a potential World Cup host. Unfortunately as we understand it, WBD have no plans to come back to Australia in the near future.

15+ staff were involved in the build for nearly 4 months. The maths is pretty straight forward- total person hours on the project were over 7,500!

The entry to this feature wasn’t finished during testing- the run in speed for Bernard in this clip is way lower than the finished course speed.

@sino428: we can confirm- Wildcard just means they are only racing an individual venue, not both events. All Wildcards are racing if they can clear a full run.
