Oct 21, 2014Fox 40 RC2
$900 CADWhen you’re ready to hit the World Cup Downhill course, the Fox 40 is ready for you. This fork is not for the feint of heart. Fox designed the 40 for the rider that seeks the absolute highest grade of performance through the most extreme terrain. With riders such as Aaron Gwin riding the 40 to victory at the World Cup Championships, it’s easy to see this fork is race- bred. Install the 40 and hop on the bike. You’ll notice the 40 tracks remarkably well, even if the ground is full of ruts, roots, and rocks. The engineers at Fox worked hard to instill the ultimate stiffness and plushness into the the fork for accurate steering, immaculate small bump sensitivity as well as big hit absorption. Upon a larger hit, the 40 eats it up and you are ready to focus on the terrain ahead. 40mm stanchions and the triple- crown keep the fork ultra-stiff.
The 40 is part of Fox’s Factory series, therefore the stanchions are treated with the unique-to-Fox Kashima coating. This ensures that the suspension is buttery smooth. The Kashima coating is a proprietary hard anodizing process that fills in any microscopic pores in the material creating a smoother surface, in comparison to a hard anodization on prior versions. Its distinctive gold color is backed by its high performance attributes including extreme durability as well as an extremely smooth feel. The biggest purpose and value of the Kashima coating is its friction reduction properties, however the increase in durability makes it all even better.
Fox included the FIT RC2 damper in the Fox 40. The FIT RC2 damper employs a bladder system that keeps the oil and air from mixing to provide optimal performance in all riding extremes. Since the FIT cartridge uses much less oil, the weight of the fork is significantly less than one with an open bath style. The lighter damper is also inverted in the fork which reduces unsprung weight.
Adjustments such as low- speed compression, high- speed compression, and spring preload are located conveniently for quick access on the trail, so you can dial in your fork's suspension on-the-fly, right before, during or after your run. The Fox 40 is the flagship model of Fox Racing Shox downhill forks, and will take your riding to the next level.
