Spotted: Prototype ‘Project Black’ 27.5/29 Specialized DH Bike - Crankworx Rotorua 2019
Wild guess but could there be sockets of some sort just after the welds under those black sections that allow plates of different lengths to be swapped in and out to make minor adjustments to the seatstay and chainstay lengths without the hassle of welding up/carbon laying an entire new section? The wraps existing to hide this new geometry fine tuning ability, keep mud out, help a bit with stiffness and still give it a clean appearance? Something like this would certainly help for testing different wheel combos.

Greg Minnaar's Broken Santa Cruz V10 - Val di Sole DH World Cup 2017
@RollinFoSho: I was thinking something more was up as well. The ping sound is rim/wheel but if you look at his front wheel just before it washes out and his foot goes down it seems as if there is a burst of energy as if frame partially snapped causing release of energy and the post finished it off. Hard to say for sure. He came into the berm hauling almost like hitting a wall.

Aaron Gwin's Absolutely Incredible Finals Run: Mont-Sainte-Anne DH World Cup 2017 - Video
It is great to see the new tires working out well in this race. It was a huge risk for him to be doing the development of them during real races. I have been thinking how Gwin's earlier race issues could be directly attributed to the new tires not being up to snuff from what he was used to. A few lack of traction moments at ProGRT at Mountain Creek this year and Fort William as well as sidewall issue in Lenzerheide. What would the season be looking like if that was the blacked out brand he had been riding? Maybe better? Anyway props for taking the risk, sticking it out and looking forward. The risk had to be taken at some point to move the needle.

SussMyBike Data Acquisition - Eurobike 2016
@Socket: I built something very similar during a hackathon. We were very impressed with the retraction speed we got out of our prototype. The trick is to have the lowest friction possible for the sensor. Instead of a traditional pot made of wire windings and wiper arm we used a capacitive encoder. The increase in durability and lower friction of that approach made extension and retraction surprisingly accurate. Not sure what they are using as a sensor for this but I imagine it is something similar. Check out a video of our prototype Our project can be found at

Pinkbike Poll: Should On-Board Cameras Be a Requirement for All World Cup DH Racers?
If it is mandatory, which I dont think it should be, then it should be for finals only or earlier footage delayed until after finals. It would not be fair to force riders to give away all their sniper lines.
