Redhill Extreme, Gloucestershire has been home to the British 4X series for many years now, but after a recent change in owners saw some alterations to the track. The first change being on the first corner, infamously named 'carnage corner', this has been revamped and widened out allowing riders to really inside it adding to the carnage. This corner definitely lived up to its name today with many riders falling into realms. The second and most significant change was towards the bottom of the track after the motorway section, a right-hander into two doubles followed by a step down rejoining the old track.
Open Women's category preparing for take off.Being a wide open track there are many places throughout the track for overtaking and many alternative lines meant the winners were far from certain and a few upsets on the cards. The conditions were very dry and dusty on track which caused a few get loose to ending up in a coating of the famous red marley dirt.
Oscar Powell knew this all too well.Liam Munn coming in hot.After a two-hour practice in the morning, racing got underway at 1:40 pm. First up are the motos in which you gain points allowing you to progress to the finals to have a shot at the podium. The weather remained relatively overcast with some sunny intervals but fortunately, the rain held off for racing.
The skies threatening rain.Racing kicked off with the big fun men where we saw Martyn Nicholas pip the win followed by Ryan Humphreys in 2nd and Ben Jones' brother Scott in 3rd. Next up were Rippers, the Madley's managed to dominate once again as done in round 2 with Luke in 1st, brother George in 2nd and Ned Penny in 3rd.
George Madley chasing down Alfie Holloway.Juveniles was once again won by Zac Hudson, riding for Dirt Bike School, with William Chater in 2nd and Louie Partridge in 3rd. It was a similar story in the Youth category with Dec Willicombe, who won the previous round at Afan, taking the win. Max Penny followed in 2nd and Ruben Masi in 3rd. In Juniors Oscar Powell's winning streak was broken after a crash in finals causing him to place 3rd, Finlay Keogh bagged 2nd leaving Benjamin Armitage to take the win.
One of the many alternative lines on the track.Senior Men's saw a familiar looking podium with Reece Richards winning again, Joseph Presswood getting 2nd again and Matthew Wilson in 3rd. The Master's men made for an exciting final with a big crash from Mop Head who managed to dislocate his elbow causing him to finish 4th, Richard Dobson in 3rd, James Wilson in 2nd and Lee Ferry in 1st. In the Veterans category Jason Jessop managed to keep up his good form taking the win once again by a fair margin, Neil Harbour placed 2nd and Paddy Baker in 3rd.
Inside or outside?The Open Women was closely contested between the newcomer to the sport, Molly Dobson and Heather Kay who just managed to edge her on the last turn placing her in 1st, Molly in 2nd and Hannah Escott in 3rd. Last but not least was the Elite Men where Alex Metcalfe bagged himself a 1st place, young gun Charlie Currie in 2nd and Connor Hudson in 3rd.
