About ONE Industries ONE Industries began as a small band of riders driven by a common passion and a belief that we could do better. In 1997, the army began assembling in the heart of San Diego, California. First we revolutionized motocross graphics, but we were soon designing and marketing a complete line of innovative products for moto and bike riders. We expect our products to be second to none, because we are riders like you who want to be at our best on every ride. So join us on your next ride. And become another rider in the “Army of ONE”.
They give riders a discount on their product, in turn, it promotes their brand and gets them sales. Even a lot of pro's don't get their gear for free, they often pay a bit of money, and that's why you see pro's bikes for sale every year, they sell them to get their new bike for the next season.
I'm not well versed in how sponsorships work in the bike world, but I know of another sport where even the top tier players only get discounts on their items.
They're sponsoring people based on what they say on a web application, there is high enough risk to that as it stands - at least this dampens the risk.
All that being said, the requirements/demands for the sponsorship are a bit over the top, I think. (Such as: "Display logos from ONE on all vehicles and bikes")
This isn't a new thing, and as long as desparate people sign up just to say they are 'sponsored' then the practice will continue.
Having said that, a discount is a discount... now where do I sign?
