Nerding Out: Is World Cup Downhill Racing Getting Tighter?
Agreed! Need to do a sanity check on the data to determine if it is normal. Then, compare the standard deviations of race finishes over time to analyze on the spread is changing and if it is indeed "getting tighter". Then, to check if it's as difficult to get on the podium as it was to get in the top ten back in the day; I would probably look at how many standard deviations you would need to be from each respective sample mean to achieve that criteria. There is probably a more academic procedure to follow, but logically that would make sense to me.

Intense Tracer 275C, DVO Jade

$2500 USD
I initially purchased this carbon framed Tracer NEW from Laguna Beach Cyclery in September 2016, had all the pivot bearings serviced there about a year ago. It's the Grey/Black Expert trim but I upgraded the brakes, suspension, and drivetrain from stock. I swapped out the Rock Shox Monarch Plus that came with it for the incredible DVO Jade coil. The progressive leverage ratio of this bike is well matched with the plush feel of the coil. It has a playful but forgiving feel that gives tons of confidence. The Jade makes a big difference over the stock shock but probably the best upgrade on this Tracer is the combination of a 30 tooth OneUp oval chainring and the 11-46 Box Cassette. With that drivetrain upgrade there is very little pedal bob, even with the coil, and the super low gear that combo provides is exactly what you need for climbing up the steep climbs in this area. I found having that extra low gear makes the difference between calling it a day and being able to go around for another lap. I've comfortably done 3,500 ft days on this bike, it really makes that big of a difference. Right now it’s riding on Maxxis Double Down tires front and rear with a DHF on the front and an Agressor on the rear. It has a 203mm Shimano Ice Tech rotor on the front and a 180mm rotor on the rear. I've maintained and taken care of this bike pretty meticulously since I bought it. I've always had 3D clear protective tape on most surfaces of the frame pretty much since I bought it, so it is in really pretty good condition. There are some scrapes on the right side of the rear triangle but other than that nothing more than just minor cosmetic scratches. Never had any major crashes or anything that caused real damage. I bought this bike when I was just getting into mountain biking and have averaged about 25 miles a week on it. Drivetrain is smooth, pivots feel tight, no dents on the rims - I would say everything is in good condition. (Note: Pedals are not included) Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.
