@Velosexualist: Valid, but both are constants. One with a motor, one with a human. In this case with a mountain bike, isn't the user (power source) considered to at least fall in some type of typical range for "power delivery"? And the design of bike to be classified by the intended use (DH, XC, Enduro, etc)? I would still argue there must be a design that is the "staple" of being the best design.
At the end of the day it's always nice to have options and that's what makes mtn bike brands unique I suppose.

Looks good. But I always question if there isn't just a basic rear suspension design that works the best? Look at moto bikes. Nearly all major brands have the same design with minor differences in linkages, shock length, and mounting. It just works...
