AGS

Downhill Mountain biking, like many action sports, has enjoyed a significant increase in popularity over the last 15 years. Born in California, technology and innovation have rapidly advanced the sport since the days of tricked out beach cruisers bombing rough-cut trails and mountain roads. Downhill mountain biking has been showcased in the Olympics, X Games, and race circuits have sprouted up at all levels of competition. Events get bigger and riding gets more gnarly.

Tucked away in the Pacific Northwest is one of those race circuits. The All Gravity Series is the brainchild of series organizer Josh Tofsrud. Originating in Spokane the series has grown to five races at four different mountains. Showcasing a variety of classes, amateurs and pros are eligible to descend these mountains. That’s what makes these events so unique, continuous innovation and expansion hasn’t killed the mellow vibe, stops still exude a laid back, family ambiance. Riders as young as 9 or 10 get a chance to shred some of the course themselves before watching the Pro Class riders bomb the trails and huck some major drops. Josh has successfully created a community by organizing the All Gravity Series. On the exception of the season kick off race at Beacon Hill just outside Spokane, WA, which is held as early as March, most of the series runs from July to October. The series has created quite a following and several familiar faces attend each stop.

The AGS has successfully grown over the past couple years. Josh recently added Whitefish Mountain Resort as a stop on the circuit. This is the first series race to be held in Montana, which means that the All Gravity Series now spans three states. The geographical locations of the stops alone further solidify the circuit’s uniqueness as well as radness. These trails are narrow, steep, and rough. There is no “hero dirt” in these races, no plush top soil to catch you. When a rider goes over the handlebars in northern Idaho or western Montana they pay the price. Rocks, gravel, overgrown forestry make for a devastating spill. But, scars are free tattoos.

As the series grows AGS has teamed up with an impressive list of sponsors. Oakley, Shimano, and Transition have all supported the races. Reel Cameras has teamed up with the All Gravity Series and will begin sponsoring immediately. Don’t be surprised to see AGS become a premier circuit in North America. Josh hasn’t grown complacent and every year the races get better. The future is bright for the tour, the riders, and the organizers.

As we enter fall, the series is down to two more stops. The Moscow Arms Race will be held September 28th-29th in Moscow, ID. Less than a month after that will be the series Finals at back at Beacon Hill October 26th & 27th. Here they will crown a champion. The Beacon Hill course is currently facing a dilemma. The small bike park just minutes outside downtown Spokane is now subject to an expanding housing development. Although short, the hill has provided years of enjoyment to local riders. Many residents took their first laps on this hill. A rider’s first laps are that of a christening, and location of that first descent is a Holy Land. But, that’s the world we live in, even more of a reason to attend the series Finals at Beacon Hill.

If you are in the area it is definitely recommended to come out and experience what AGS has to offer. You will not be disappointed. If you do get a chance to attend, swing by the Reel Cameras tent, check out our apparel and of course the HD Slayer. Any of you riders out there interested in getting involved, visit www.allgravityseries.com for schedule and registration information.
