hey man. when i bouhgt the bike i ask for the gears to be removed (they keep them) as they singlespeed it for me.
the single speed is as follows: a small chain ring about 16 or 18T and rubber spacers which go onto the part the casette normaly goes on. then you can have a chain tensioner, or (which ive done) is have a half link chain, which means you dont need a tensioner because the 1/2 link enables you to have the chain tighter.
have a look at a DMR conversion kit, and Da Bomb also make them. feel free to ask me any more =)
