Apr 25, 2023Ibis Cousin It Vintage MTB Tandem XTR
$900 USDUp for grabs is a rare Sonoma County hand built Ibis tandem. This is essentially a Cousin It, although it may not match some elements of that model precisely as it was made locally for an employee (I believe).
My wife and I purchased this bike from the original owner and have put probably about 800 miles on it. We didn't get out much with it, honestly, and it's been one of the bikes used occasionally out at the local Center for the Blind's Bicycle Pilot program. They also didn't put too many miles on it, but it did bring pleasure to a fair few folks before the program was discontinued a few years ago.
We're selling because we no longer have room for it and my wife and I are looking for different things from our own cycling at this point.
Some things to know:
--The bike was likely built around 1998 here in Sonoma County, prior to Ibis going out of business then re-emerging in the mid 2000's
--The bike was repainted around 2003. Paint still looks great.
--For some reason, the original owner replaced the Ibis decals with Soulcraft decals. I wasn't crazy about that and tried to remove one of them, with mixed results, as you can see.
--The Center for the Blind unfortunately replaced the XTR shifter/brake levers with Alivio at some point. Regretful, but they were focused on keeping it rolling for a low price.
--The rest of the components are either vintage XTR or XT and in good working order
--I installed a cable-actuated disc brake to be deployed by the stoker on long/steep descents. It's essentially a heat sink intended to take pressure off the rim brakes. Works great.
--I do have the original quill captain's stem painted to match included here, so the existing stem can be replaced, if desired.
--I also have a Cane Creek Thudbuster stoker stem that's included too, in good working order and good for unexpected bumps the captain forgets to call out.
--Pedals, cages, and pump are included in the sale.
--Tires are pretty shot. Good for a test ride, but you'll want to replace those.
--There is some surface rust on the outer plate of the disc brake, but it's not impacting any performance and could likely be scoured off
