Ooo, good question. The modular lower shock mount actually attaches to the main pivot housing, not the seat tube. That housing is 3D-printed and purpose-designed for this exact job, which makes it significantly stiffer than mounting to the downtube. It’s honestly the stiffest structure of the entire frame. The mount itself is a cantilevered design that's built to handle far more than the loads it will realistically see. With this layout, the shock is pretty isolated from torsional and lateral forces. Ultimately, durability and hard riding were front of mind for every aspect of the frame -- I like to have my i's dotted and t's crossed! I’ll nudge Steve to jump in if he has more to add, but those are the broad strokes.

@grillis: I’m a really small operation -- essentially only one person, low overhead, my own streamlined workflows... I don't need to be concerned about shareholder growth or massive operating costs, etc. so that allows me to price frames solely based on what I need to sustain the work and my life. Profit matters (obviously), but I think sustainability (for the builder and the rider) matters more.
