Utah Desert with Nick Simcik and Team Geronimo

With Interbike fresh in our minds, what better way than sleeping in the dirt and blowing up desert dust to relax and get away from the world than to head into the desert? With locations already in mind, we headed back to Area 99 that we visited last year.Every year Interbike happens. The extremes of Vegas counteract the next few days, creating a balance for us. Right after Interbike, I headed out to Utah with Wilz, the Buells, and Wilz’s production company. I put together and edit from the trip.


This trip is always my favorite of the year. We camp out under the stars in perfect temps and weather, ride, hang, and produce media. This year we had a lot of support from DaKine, DT Swiss, and several other brands.

We started out in Area 99, then headed to Moab and finally to Fruita. Area 99 is a big mountain riders dream. The dirt is really tough to build with, so we stuck to just riding some sweet ridge lines and hitting a few smaller drops.

Once we were done in 99, we headed to Moab for some SlickRock and Whole Enchilada. We shot a ton of helmet cam and lots of stills. Nate Volk produced some awesome angles for Wilz’s two edits. http://www.vimeo.com/15460401 and http://www.vimeo.com/15385559.

From Moab, we headed to Fruita for our final shoot. Another super early morning and some awesome shots later, we were set. The trip revolved around why we ride. We all ride for different reasons, and some days, that reason changes. I do not ride with aims to be the best in the world, I ride because I love it. Riding my bike is something I wake up thinking about every day. I am fortunate enough to be able to travel the country and hopefully in 2011 the world to do. I get to share it with my best friends and play like I am 12 all the time. Other days its to be out shooting pictures or video so I can look back on my career in 15 years. Other days, its to see what is truly capable on these bikes we ride.


This trip got me super motivated to be out shooting and filming. I have big plans for this winter, building, shooting, and of course riding. I will keep you up to date as those trips and shoots happen.
