I've never really suffered with this, but recently I noticed something odd in my new SLX brake levers which I hadn't seen in my previous Shimano brake levers - a small black bung (with a small a hole in it) lodged in the port hole. It drastically reduces flow through the port. Both of my new SLX levers had it, and not sure if it's a remnant from the manufacturing process - but I can easily imaging this getting blocked. Maybe it's something to do with the process Shimano use to pre-fill and bleed their levers? Anyway I removed them from mine with a small pick before putting together. I wonder if others are having issues with this bung getting blocked, or causing the flow to be too slow (hence the viscosity thing). It's easy enough to see if your lever has the bung. Unscrew the hose and look down the end to the port - if it's a small black circle it's this odd bung.

@mikelevy: In years of owning Shimano brakes I've never experienced this "wandering bite point" ... why not do a more in depth video of what it is?
