Despite what people might say I think hardtails make awesome freeride bikes. They have a feeling of really tight control to me; they make you pick lines and learn proper bike skills. They all retain speed nicely on jump landings and pick up speed well when pedaling. I've ridden a few full suspension bikes but always come back to my first hardtail.
SO, you should totally get one :)
