Intrusive Thoughts: How Much Can Modern Parts Improve My Old Bike?
I went the other direction with my old Sentinel. Smaller shock, lighter wheels and lighter, faster rolling tires. If I remember correctly the geometry is pretty close to the modern smuggler. Ended up racing The Downieville Classic on it and doing alright (for me at least). All that to say I think it makes a good trail bike even though it was my "enduro" bike when I bought it.

The Overcomplication of MTB Tires: What Riders Actually Need
Great example of cherry picking. The second half of that sentence says "even if it comes at the cost of rolling resistance or tire longevity". Pedalling efficiency was the top priority before enduro bikes became common. And while early adopters of the downhill oriented pedallable bikes may think having a grippy tire is common sense it isn't necessarily for a big chunk of the market. I was just in a shop where a mechanic had to talk a person out of mounting dual compound aggressors front and rear.

Transition Patrol XL

$4000 USD
Moving to the Sentinel so I'm selling my Patrol. I'm 6ft decided to size up to the XL, never had any issues with the size. Brand new: Anvl Mandrel bars, Odi grips, Rockshox Reverb 175, Anvl TI forge seat. Shock: DPX2 (rideable but needs a service) Fork: Lyric (recent lowers service including seals, feels great) Other components: Santa Cruz Reserve Wheels, DT Swiss 350 hubs with 54t ratchet, Maxxis Assegai front, Maxxis DHR II with cushcore back (both fairly new), Cane Creek 110 headset, Race Face Turbine R stem, Code RS brakes (203 rotors), 11 speed Shimano xt derailleur, xtr shifter, sram GX cranks, 30t X01 chainring Quirks: steerer is a short so no room for spacers, rim width is 27 front and 30 back. I haven't installed the Reverb lever but will before sale.

YT Capra Frame Large

$700 USD
Brand new front triangle, and freshly serviced Rockshox super deluxe (the big service). Wear on the chainstays from my stupid duck feet and general riding scuffs and scratches. Also two chips in the paint on the front triangle fresh from YT (didn't think it was worth it to complain). I cracked the original front triangle and YT wasn't able to replace it for almost two months so I bought a different frame and swapped parts. The new front triangle didn't come with the downtube protector but I pulled it off the old one. It will be included but not attached. Also, I have the original wheelset for cheap if you're interested. Happy to answer any questions. Cheers, Jarred
