The BC Bike Race experience was so unique. Feel lucky to have take part and finished this big week of trail riding. So much trails, so much meetings much unique views, so much great people, so much awesome food, so much magnificent trail centers...That was awesome to take part at this event with a custom bike from Focus Bikes and fews cool kits by CaféduCycliste. It's an adventure that makes you want to discover even more, and we hope it's the start of a great series of events around the world.
Day One, was such an intense stage, like a short enduro we had a liaison to one 13km chrono section to put the riders on the line up for the next days. Felt so lucky to put the wheels around the Vancouver Island for the first time ever. Let's go for a big week full of single track, sharing the good ride with a bunch of passionate people around the world.
Day Two, finally comes into real technical cross country stage. I'd forgotten how intense these cross-country starts can be. It's really respectful on the trails in between the riders and it was cool to ride with people who enjoy to comes there to ride beautiful track and not absolutely force to pass everywhere. Really impressed by the quality of the trails, how technical it is and how fun it is too to ride. you should find a good flow and let's enjoy it !
Day Three, new day new spot, it was fun to take the bus and change the basecamp. That's also part of the adventure. To go sleeping into different places, take some times to discover the Island, open the eyes and look at everything with your childhood soul. Today was close to a 50k loop, we had a lot of snaky turns, really a lot of flows trails at the beginning and a lot of rocks to the end. A nice variety of different tracks in one day.
Day Four, everyday it's hard to follow the top fast guns on the road with my bigger trail bike for the fews first kilometers after the start. But then when we entrance the mountain bike track it's a maximum of pleasure. All the way up are challenging and all the way down are made by hand with a super cool flow. Today was tuff with a broken front brake but luckily there was a pit station at the middle of the day so I could just finish the day safe and that was perfect. We even had a bonus lake swim at the end of the stage before pedaling back to the camp. Looks like holidays full of bikes and magnificent areas.
Day Five, we still keep going into new basecamp, travelling deep through the Island. Today's stage was all around Cumberland, and so far the best stage with the most variety of tracks possible, from super deep loam, to long wooden features, into speed downhills and rocky climbs. The views never stops. The air is super fresh. It's like a dream or maybe it is... Mannnn this place is definitely made for mountain biking. We had a short time here but this gave me the feeling that I'd would love to come back and explore more all around the area.
Day Six, another day in lycra day, and so far that was the most challenging stuff as an Enduro guy jajajaaa. But you know it's a big day when it's a Lycra day and when you're a Enduro rider you just love big riding days and you don't want to stop. So it's a match. Today was called the 'Green Room' by the locals. And now I know why.... It was a pure feeling of freedom riding those tracks in those deep big ferns. Maybe the most flow trails we ever had. Everything was shaped to get some confortable rides and the feeling was awesome.
Day Seven, seven day in a row of cross country mass start. To be honest the mind doesn't want to stop because it's so beautiful, but the old body is getting tired. It's harder and harder everyday and this is a part of this challenging week. So I'll take it easy into the climbs, tried to maximized the efforts. Keep riding with a good pace in the downhills and keep the eyes wide open to discover all of the trails, views and take everything possible in this last day. Finally make it to the finish line. Absolutely mind blowing with the quality of all tracks, all organization, all gentle people, all good food and drinks. So much big smiles at the finish line. And this gave me the feeling of wanted more big adventures like this pure single track experience called BCBR - GOOD JOB GUYS YOU ROCK -
So at the end I can say this BCBR is not a CrossCountry race, it's not even an Enduro race. It's maybe in between. Still everyday mass start riding. And still everyday one timed chrono downhill section. BY the way happy to have won some, but mostly stuck in the pack. Anyway mega good fun to have a downhill chrono into an endurance stage race jajaaaa too good. So throught my eyes it was just a pure form of mountain biking, trail riding, all mountain bike, called it whatever you want it's just biking. Everyone has their own challenges. It can be hard to finish one day, it can be hard to finish the all week. But definitely you should just comes here to enjoy first of all the all beautiness of the trails but mostly everything who can happened around if your eyes are wide open enough. So when they said that it's "the ultimate single track experience" you can trust them.
