Public BC Dirt Jump Park Slated for Destruction to Make Way for Pickleball
Those dirt jumps suck, and they have for a long time. The city built crappy jumps, the city didn’t (pay anyone to) maintain them, the community didn’t maintain them (because they suck), and now they’re gone. The Pinto/shuttle bus analogy above is accurate.
Jumps need a community of volunteers: it will be a rotating cast as people move away/get different interests. Jumps need city support: If the jumps are poorly designed (Richmond) they will need more city support. If the jumps are well designed (Vanier & Loutet) they will need less (or no) city support because the community will step up.

@mi-bike: I agree: You don’t need “legal” survey type accuracy. But the advantage to the riders is minimal—unless they have real time speed feedback. Even then, I think most riders just say “thanks for the numbers” and then go ahead and rely solely on their intuition.

I would look in the mirror to find the problem: I've ridden a number of velosolutions pump tracks, and those places where the tracks had "vertical rollers not adequately balanced over the horizontal distance" were places where my skill level was not high enough to double over the gaps. Watch a good rider on those same tracks and they can gap or manual to prevent loss of momentum.
