Gravity Canterbury Summer Series Race #3

by Tom Cuthbert
The summer series is brought to a wrap as the last race sends it off. The previous day, Saturday, had 6-7 hours of non-stop heavy rain that looked as though it wouldn't give in. The new top section was freshly built and the previous Wednesday when I went down it, it had an inch or two of fine dust covering the soft soil underneath. The fine Christchurch weather pulled through on the Sunday and gave us awesome temperatures that dried out the track just enough to make it perfect, not too dusty, but not too wet, just tacky and fast. The last race wasn't just the 3rd race of the series, but it was also the Canterbury Champs race so the winner of each race received a trophy for the regional champs.

Video, pics and results inside....The practice in the morning was fast and loose as the sun had not quite come out yet and the track was still a bit damp, but racing in the afternoon was perfect and the series' last race went off without a hitch.

Bergamont Cycles Sponsorship package:

Bergamont cycles are a fairly new brand in New Zealand, but they are making a big contribution with their recent arrival here. With this series being their first, they have signed to sponsor the next 2 years' series as well as the New Zealand Open race held in Christchurch every year. Besides sponsoring racing, they are giving young riders the opportunity to progress in their riding and gain more skills on their bike, helping the younger guys in the sport and keeping the sport alive in NZ.

The selection of the person for sponsorship isn't solely based on their race positions and results, but also their presentation, contribution to the sport and overall participation and presence in the sport as a community.

This year JD Devlin was the sponsored rider. Included in the package is a Bergamont Straitline Team, equipped with Boxxer Teams, DHX RC4, DT Swiss Wheels and Elixir CR brakes as well as a SRAM/Truvativ Drivetrain. In addition to this is a Bergamont team kit, and mechanical aid for his bike so he can keep it in tip top condition so that it's ready when he is.
