Wearing protection doesn't prevent injuries. It helps a whole lot increasing your chances of surviving a fall though. One of my friends failed a bunny hop over a 3 feet high chain while wearing full body armor/helmet/knee and shin pads (he really had everything except a neck protector) and he broke his neck because he fell on his head. According to many specialists, he should have died before he got to the hospital. A couple of years and several different doctors opinion later, even though he wasn't ever supposed to get out of the hospital again because he is now paralysed from his neck to his toes and on an assisted respirator, he lives at his parents home and coaches basketball at a local university. The guy never lost his will to live and now tells me from time to time: "Keep in mind that a calculated risk, is still a risk, and that the best way to live (or ride) is hard but safe. Even though you ride more than once a week, you don't live twice". I have seen an earlier post by bobbike1 about how Pro riders don't wear that much protection while doing such hardcore riding and I can't help but agree. One thing we have to ask ourselves is: Do I really feel like doing this feature with no protection, just like that guy who's been doing it for a while now and who's paid to ride, but also to crash an recuperate?
