Highlands Mountain Bike Park

Just because winter is in full swing around here, doesn't mean we can't reminisce about the good ol' days. Last October to end our summer, we spent a day hammering the slopes at Highland Mountain Bike Park.

October 17, 2010. What an amazing day. I woke up very early. Let's say 0600 to get ready for my road trip with Ty Delphia. It was chilly out, very foggy and rainy. I thought to myself, we will just go anyway despite the whether outlook. I get to Ty's about 0730.

Driving through most of Vermont and half way through New Hampshire, we were one of very few cars on the road that morning. Probably the only car that is entertaining passengers with Family Guy episodes on his Samsung Captivate with sound Blue Toothed through the stereo. tup

We got lost in Franklin for about 5 minutes, but we got on track with the help of Highlands front desk. We arrived about 1000 am and the glorious sun blazed the parking lot. There were already loads of people, SUV's and thousands of dollars in bikes getting ready for the day.

The rest of the day? Well, despite having to go back to the repair shop numerous times to get Ty's chain fixed and trying to keep my own chain on, we managed to enjoy most of the day. We had to call it quits not long after Ty snapped his chain at the 8 pack and I smashed my big toe into a dirt mound taking off my toe nail!

Oh, thank you. We haven't even started it yet. Still in the fund raising phase...once spring hits, ITS ON!!! Can't wait to start digging!

I will make it a life mission to take my hardtail to Highland one day.

That is very ambitious! We had such a white knuckle ride, but man, it will definitely make you good!

From what I've seen on the videos, it looks like there's plenty there for the DH bike but I'd be constantly seeing stuff that I'd like to ride on my hardtail! Isn't there loads of dirt jumps there?

There are lots of dirt jumps! I found 3 pump tracks I think, 2 beginier-ish dirt parks, one practice mulch pile and a slew of huge things up with Dave! Oh, of course there is the indoor bike park as well...that place was ok...foam pits are good if you are the only one using it. It takes forever to dig out of it with your bike. I think we were the only hard tails on the trails that day!

Sounds like a winner for the HT then. We have a park with foam near me, great fun but yeah, a nightmare if its busy. The mulch sounds good. Its not that bad to fly over from here as its east coast so very doable for a short break. Flights are a lot cheaper than Canada for example. I will definitely consider it, thanks for the write up!

you are welcome and anytime. If you are headed this way, let us know, of course. Glad to meet new bikers in the biking world!
