They will leave enough wood that I could do a stump to stump ladder. They only take about 10% of what they cut. Thank the BC government for that. They used to pay a "stumpage fee" for every tree they cut. That meant that if they did a clearcut like this, the wood would be used. Taken to local mills and made into lumber. Lots of work for fallers, truckers, mill workers... and the rate of cutting was much lower, leaving us with some forest while the older cuts had a chance to grow back.
Now they cut everything with huge machines (no fallers) then they pick the biggest & best logs & ship them directly offshore. Less work for truckers and no work for the lumber mills.
