I respect your opinion Dan, but you're coming across a little unreasonable because you're mad.

Chill.

Sorry guys... I've ran out of painkillers for my knee and am having flashes of rage!Really Mad apologies
(I have no cartilage, meniscus or ligaments left in my right knee... Smashed!)

The only thing keeping me going is the fact that Fabien Barel once had a similar injury and he still managed to win races afterwards.
BUT his medical care was probably way better than I'm getting

go private lol

Not everyone has jobs that pay lots of pennies, limiting them on spending and medical care, that's what I'm trying to imply (Not saying you don't, oldman Wink )

at 16 yrears old you cannot begin to comprehend what it feels like to be 43 with a f*cked knee. i do and if i had the chance i would go back and get it done private so that it works better than it does now, no matter what the cost. At 16 you still bounce and heal, i got news once past 30 things take a lot longer. Thats all im saying.

Once again it all comes down to money!!!!

If I could afford to go private, I would.
I would also drive a Bugatti and live in a hilltop mansion with private trails, pool, helipad etc...

But this is the real world and after feeding my children, paying the mortgage and bills etc there isn't quite enough left over for a few grands worth of surgery!
I have in my life sustained lots of permanent injuries, (perm. Dislocated clavicle, compressed spinal disc, perm. Dislocated jaw, floating pieces of bone in my ankle, the list goes on...) this is just another one.
I WILL be back on the bike soon, regardless of medical treatment! I always manage to somehow!

(I'll just live up to my name and walk like an old man too!!)

its's a shame really cause if you think of it your NHS health care isnt really free, as an actual paying customer you should expect a better service. Hope its gets better soon mate. fooked knees really are a bastard.

Here in France and Switzerland you have no choice but to have med insurance and it aint cheap, i pay about 400 gbp for the family per month and even then they only pay 80 percent of the bill. which really pisses me off.

+1 on that, my dad slipped a disk in his spine, had to wait 7 years for surgery, even though he was in crippling agony almost every day. Healthcare needs re-examination.

Thanks Mattygee! unfortunately my knee specialist reckons that the surgery may not work in my case. I have another 5 weeks in a hinged brace to see how well the ligaments grow back, and if the meniscus will grow back. If after then I'm still not improving then they may try surgery.
I do pay my taxes so I guess it isn't free, but having to pay for it anyway and then still paying more for private care seems pointless. If only we could opt out of paying the tax and choose where we were treated!
I work for a multinational corporation so they have offered me medical assistance through the occupational health system, but I'm not sue to speak to them until Wednesday. Hopefully they will help alongside the NHS!
I want to avoid surgery if possible, as there is no guarantee it will help.

There is always dh wheelchairs though........

When I did my back dirt jumping ( about 12/13 years ago ) I did a nothing, slipped both feet, ass hit my saddle and snapped both rails ( specialized seat with ALU rails! ) and and then went into the rear wheel balls first!
I went to the gp who said "take these pain killers and come back in 2weeks if it still hurts"
Not good enough. Went to the chiropractic clinic (not available on the NHS) as I had some savings.
Did an xray, back was f*cked.
After 6 weeks and about £1200 later I was riding again.
You only get one back, and its quite important so I didn't mind the cost.
Maybe if I hadn't done it I would have had to wait like your dad!
Hope he gets better dude!

He's all good now, just can't do manual work for a job anymore and sometimes it causes him trouble. It was a stupidly expensive operation that we couldn't afford since the vertebrae prolapsed or something, nasty accident at work. He still rides though Big Grin

Dude....

If you only might notice the difference, then why do people not just use sc forks for wc races etc...??
Of course you notice the difference! I don't know what trails you ride (in the flattest country in the world) but here you notice.
I ride a lyrik rc2dh and a Bos idylle. I can notice the difference. Especially riding a Welsh rock garden.
the reason you need a dual crown is because you cant get 8" of travel from a single crown.

Ok nobbs has spoken! The Oracle speaks!
I forgot you're an 'engineer' aren't you....

So the fact I've been ridind 7 years longer than you've even been alive means nothing, and I obviously have no experience at all.
No diss dude but I got parts catalogues older than you...
like i give a shit... i teach people older than me to ride their bikes faster everyday.

And yes, your claim about the stiffness difference is absolute bullshit.

O+

Dual crown is positively more stiff and you will notice the difference. Don't know how anyone who has ridden both would say different.

Put your e-dicks away.
