wow so they are the same hey. I can't remember where I read that, I'm sure it was on ask us anything. That's given me fresh incentive to push on with the rebound tuning
Just lowered my 2010 55 RC3 Tis, thought I'd contribute a little I stuck the spacer in between the top out spring and the plate that is held into the bottom of the stanchion tube. You could always have the spacer between the top out spring and part 54 though.
sorry for potato quality. I haven't cut my spring so I've got a load (about 30mm) of preload . It took an extra person to hold the spring inside the fork as the top cap was tightened. Feels pretty good so far. I think I'll go back into it and put in a stronger spacer at some point. We'll see how it holds up in the meantime.
I've wanted a lowered 55 for quite a while now. Going on my meta 4x play bike build edit, if my spacer was a bit thicker it'd probably be better on the other side of the top out spring. I've also got a shorter main spring so I can run it at 100mm or less on the void if I ever feel the need.
Hell yeah. Ive been on the same boat for a while, before I got my Slope CR. I almost baught a buddies 55 r from like 09. I may have to see if he still has it.
I originally put my spacers under the top out spring, then I read it they should be on top so I changed them over. I have been thinking about it, and I can't see how it could make any difference though.
Sal, how does the spring assembly in your CR slope compare to this, is it shorter or does it just come with a spacer?
When i opened it up to lower it to 100mm it already had two 20mm spacers on the air spring shaft.
Do you think the damper is long enough to handle 120/140/160mm travel then? Sounds like it borrows a lot of parts from the other 55s. Judging by the size of the market for slope forks I'd be willing to bet it would just be a re-valved/shimmed CR cartridge from a 160mm 55.
Its basically a 55 except for the damper side has some different parts. Marzocchi said No, you cannot extend it past 120mm. May have to do with the rebound shaft not being long enough for more than 120mm travel. If you want more travel just get the non-slope CR, and when you want less travel, lower it.
