Documenting the lives of those riders that put it all on the line in pursuit of their passion.
When we came up with the concept to document riders that put it all on the line for their love of the sport, we wanted to highlight the dedication and commitment shown by those that don’t have it easy, don’t have big money backers and yet, because of their love for mountain biking they’ve found a way to pursue their passion.
When discussing who we’d like to feature, Adam Brayton was top of our list. Not only has he had his fair share of obstacles in the form of injuries, these injuries have hindered his ability to secure backing. And yet, through his personality, positive attitude and not to mention standout sections in Earthed 5 and DirtTV’s Finally 2, he's become one of the most widely known faces on the scene.
Fresh off a win at the last round of the British Downhill Series in Innerleithen, against a stacked field of World Cup contenders, Adam finally realized the potential that’s been simmering under the surface. And so just a few weeks later Keswick’s very own Mr Gas to Flat headed up to the first round of the 2013 World Cup at Fort William.
It goes without saying that we’ll be seeing Adam killing it on a bike in the near future and maybe even showing a few of the ‘big names’ a thing or two along the way.
As Peaty would say Adam, "don't back down!" You've shown the world you can beat the best on a tough track. Stick with it and keep your head up. The injuries will fade, the wins will come. Get well soon and the best of luck for the future.
So gutted he stacked it already had big hope for him this year , had to trade him out of my fantasy Dh team though ! Cant have some one missing 2 races minimum on the team
i doubt it would have made much difference. collarbone injuries are normally from the force of impact traveling through the arm from the hand but with hitting your shoulder its almost a given at the speed he was doing. the collarbone isn't built to be strong enough to handle the force of coming off a bike so it just snaps.
Doubt a neck brace would have helped. I'm one month out from a type 3 shoulder separation. His scuffed shoulder looked just like mine. We both impacted the same place it appears. I was wearing my Leatt and the impact that does the damage is the blow to the arm/shoulder. Not the neck/head.
I guess it wouldn`t have helped him. The collarbone is like a fuse in electric stuff. It breaks first so nothing else(like your neck) would get broken. It`s not ment be strong, it`s supposed to give in before vertebras in your neck do. And that`s why you heal up so quick after collarbone injuries in comparison to breaking other bones. Heal up quick!
Yeah if you land directly on your shoulder then it tends to be an AC joint seperation which is what the x ray looked like, but if he says its collarbone its collarbone. Much better for him if it is. Gutted with all these injuries mate as soon as he gets back on the pace then bam! Only guy with worse luck with injuries is Matti leikohnen (Sp?). Double shame cos val do sol would be a good track for him. Healing vibes
My neck brace actually snapped my collar bone! So I doubt it. Had a monster OTB and landed on the top of my head, impact from the helmet onto the brace forced it down and snapped the clavicle. Still, neck's in one piece!
@publicenemy15, I hear you. The exact same thing happened to me 2 years ago. Had a level 3 separation without breaking the collar bone and the doctor told me I would have been better off breaking my collar bone. I only had my fullface and my Leatt on and ouf, did I ever feel the pain. Still to this day I question the practicality of Leatt. In my case, if I would have had my TLD Body armor I would have been ok. My Mistake for over estimating my abilities.
...except without the girlfriend part.
He needs a sponsorship from Advil/Motrin and St. Joseph's Hospital.
Heal up quick!
