Bikepark Leogang Wraps up the 2015 Season

Nov 12, 2015

Sick tricks and fast lines - the Bikepark Leogang and the Saalfelden Leogang region celebrate the end of an exciting 2015 season. Szymon Godziek opened the season with a flawless run at White Style in January. Aaron Gwin made history with his ‘chainless’ victory at the UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup in the summer. Crowd pleaser Antoine Bizet triumphed at the 10th edition of 26TRIX. In July one of the most renowned MTB stage races – the Craft BIKE Transalp – stopped in Saalfelden Leogang. And the golden autumn months began with the Biketember Festival. Throughout the year, thousands of visitors and bike fans came to Saalfelden Leogang to discover the region, watch amazing races and contests as well as shred the bikepark of course! Here are some of the highlights.

There are too many attractions and too much to discover in Saalfelden Leogang, which is why during the UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup, Josh "Ratboy" Bryceland insists on waking up the village with a hearty "LEOGAAAANG"! Missed it? Don’t worry because Loic Bruni, Antoine Bizet, Greg Watts, Ryan Nyquist, Szymon Godziek, Pavel Alekhin, Markus Pekoll and Brook Macdonald also keep everyone on their toes during the Out of Bounds Festival. The 4-day festival in the Austrian Alps features a stop on UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup, the 26TRIX dirt jump contest, a pump track race and numerous side events.

Weather is part of Saalfelden Leogang’s charm – so much so, the thunderstorm just before the start of the Out of Bounds Festival left a lasting impression on downhill racer Sam Dale. Greg Watts’ personal highlight is his double backflip at 26TRIX in 2006. And the Russian Pavel Alekhin rode the snowy White Style slopestyle course without brakes! Another absolutely insane moment in Leogang’s event history.

Fear is obviously a factor when you compete at such a high level on some of the world’s toughest tracks and courses – but what really gets the athletes’ heart pumping? Check out the clip to find out! It also turns out that charging over roots and rocks and jumping huge dirt jumps is actually easier than speaking German! The athletes’ linguistic skills are put to the test. After watching Leogang’s highlight video, if you want to find out what a "Germknödel" is – then make sure you book a trip in 2016!
